I am doing fully-coupled temp-displacmeent analysis using CPE4T elements. I have manage to do it. However, when I try to extend it for the crack propagation using XFEM, I get the error that this element type (CPE4T) is not suitable for XFEM. Can anyone suggest how it can be done in ABAQUS without using UEL?

In some cases you can define mechanical step while you are applying thermal boundary conditions. give the temperature as initial condition, use static/general or implicit step and cpe4 element
Thanks Reza. I understand what you are saying. But in that case you cannot do the coupled analysis as CPE4 does not support it. ANyway thanks.
As far as I know, you cannot do a coupled thermal-mechanical XFEM analysis with Abaqus. However you should post a question at imechanica.org, where Abaqus experts can answer your question better.
