You can definitely try PEMFC cathode catalysts for DMFCs, but I would definitely watch your catalyst loadings. DMFC loadings tend to be higher than PEMFC loadings. Also, many DMFC cathode catalysts are specialized to resist performance degradation with methanol crossover. Therefore, the trends in performance may not be the same in PEMFCs where there is no methanol crossover. If you are trying to apply DMFC anode catalysts to PEMFCs, I think it may also be non-optimal because the DMFC anode catalysts need to perform CO oxidation as part of the methanol oxidation mechanism which is a very low priority in PEMFCs that operate on very pure hydrogen. While I would not discourage testing the DMFC catalysts in PEMFCs, I would be conscious about why the results could be different than trends in DMFCs or why catalyst choices could be non-optimal based on differences in reaction mechanism or competing reactions.
