yes you can perform AFM studies in non-contact mode.

As long as you have it flat, you can do AFM in tapping mode. I did AFM of liquid crystal polymer thin film. If the material is not properly flat, you might have to flatten the AFM image after acquisition.

Hi Dr. Yogesh, I believe the flattening tool comes up with the corresponding AFM analysis software. It just removes some 1st order or higher order bows/arcs/bends from the image.

I think that the faster and easier way is to AFM a flexible substrate which is sitting onto a rigid substrate. We were used to spread epoxy on the back of the flexible substrate to be AFM-ed. This way the substrate would be rigid during the measurement.

Also, it depends on how flexible your substrate is. Does flexible mean free-standing in this case?
