My samples has been irradiated (using Zircon and apatite) but due to different microscope using for counting, tracks are not clearly visible.
But, i will give more etching time (like in apatite 5 sec), it will revealed very well.
but we know induced tracks may also revealed,
So is it possible induced will not revealed after 5 -10 sec and induced tracks etching takes same time (like spontaneous in Apatite 50 - 60 sec as standard)
If you etch after irradiation, both spontaneous and induced tracks will be revealed. Optically you cannot tell the difference between an induced track and a spontaneous track. It is important to use the same microscope for counting both spontaneous and induced tracks. When preparing samples for irradiation, ensure that all tracks are well etched (...before irradiation). The lack of spontaneous tracks after etching may indicate that the sample is very young, or that it has very low uranium. You should try to standardize how you etch (perhaps the most critical and important step in FT dating), and do not re-etch after irradiation.
