We want to evaluate the biological efficacy of some plant extracts against cancer and we want to reduce costs. Can we develop cancer cells in eggs and measure the effectiveness of that plant extracts against cancer?
Cancer cells can be transplanted and grown on chorioallantoic membrane of chicken embryo (CAM). This is due to the absence of immune competence of chicken embryos for up to 2 weeks. Human and rodent cancer and normal cells have been successfully xenotransplanted on CAM. There is a good review on the use of chicken embryos in cardiovascular and cancer research (PMC 4164046).
