Can we assign DOI numbers to our research articles which have already been published without any DOI numbers?
It appears so. If you upload your paper on RG and then choose it (as if you wanted to download it), and you'll see the choice "Generate a DOI for this publication".
Dear Sir, Thank you for your remark. It works only for conference papers, not for journal articles. I want to know whether our published articles (which have not been assigned a DOI by the journals) can be assigned new DOI by our ourselves (in ResearchGate or in any other way).

You can register yourself first then upload your article in Zenodo from this link:

It's free and easy!

other option is crossref
You can register your self as a crossref member, pay the fee and deposit metadata from this link:
https://support.crossref.org/hc/en-us
Then you will get the DOI for your article. However, It is a bit expensive for me.
