Many literatures link the consequences of overpopulation to increased environmental pollution, habitat loss, mass extinction of species, intensive farming practices, the over consumption of resources such as fresh water, arable land and fossil fuels. Can our technological advancements close the gap between the increased population resource demand vs our limited supply? Or is the gap too wide?
A wise man (some Saudi oil minister i guess) once said that stone age did not end because we ran out of stones .. same applies to oil age... or something like this
My guess is that this analogy can be applied to fresh water fossil fuel or other resources ... things always work out eventually .. we are seeing researches working on increasing efficiency of production looking for alternative resources all the time .. that does not mean we have to lay back and relax .. we have to work hard to figure it out :)
The advancements will address the issues and also find new ways to solve the challenges that look formidable today.
I do not think that technological progress will narrow the gap between the increasing demand for housing resources versus limited supply
