Several ways of determining the concentration of TDS in water can be found in available literature. The gravimetric method in the lab, summing of all ionic concentration of all measured parameters in the lab, while another literature provides the multiplication of EC * 0.64. How can a researcher be sure to obtain the right value of TDS. Is there some means by which it can be validated just like the ionic charge balance error?
Very good and practical question , rightly said , we often gte confused which value is correct , since different methods reveal different values. Can we somewhow relate with crop response symptoms by developing the water with varying soluble salts and determing TDS to relate with crop response symptoms. Another way could be developing an empirical equation through a correlation between EC versus TDS...

Thats true , its most authenticated in relation to crop, othetwise develop empirical relation based on your observations , including the options of modification of previously suggested equations , depending upon objectives.
