Sub-specialisation in Anatomical Pathology is becoming widely practised following the ongoing development and subspecialization in surgical and medical oncology.
Whilst there is little doubt this could improve quality and enhance the efficiency of pathology reporting, is it really "healthy" for young pathologists to branch out and become subspecialised in 1-3 specialities at an early stage of their career? Would it not be better to have several years of broad(general) anatomical pathology with grounded knowledge in all aspects before embarking on sub-specialisation?
