This is a fairly well researched topic so if you search in any database for "Social Media" AND Education you should find a ton of information. If you don't have access to paid databases there are a number of free reputable databases that can help you. I compiled a list of such resources on my blog and you can find this at http://conciergelibrarian.com/open-resources-information/
I am attaching my conference paper on using Social Media to help students, who prefer their Creole, to improve on their English for writing their exams that are done in English. I hope you find it useful.
Conference Paper Social Media in Education: Bringing Your Classroom to Life -...
Oh, I forgot! There is another researcher whose works might interest you:
- Carlos Alberto de Oliveira, who has papers on the use of the computer in the classroom (Mestrado em Linguística Aplicada, Universidade de Taubaté, Taubaté, Brasil), who has an advanced course for post graduate students who interact with him through the computer interface he developped.
Thank you very much for bothering to spend your valuable time to answer my problem. Your replies are highly valuable for my study. I'm planning to do social media in education industry for my Phd thesis. So these articles will help me to find a research gap.
Nisha how are you defining education industry? It is very broad. Her in the US we have early childhood 2/3 -4. K-12 elementary-secondary and college/grad school professional training. It's a huge span with very different educational nee.
I have recently used these papers, hope you'll find them useful too:

You can focus on 2 set of resources . First resources could be academic resources that you can use for academic publication. I have attached some reference here.
Here are some academic journal sources

Second set of resources could be non-academic resources . My fellow researchers already suggested some good resources.

All of the chapters in 'An Education in Facebook' (which I contributed to) are interesting, and many libraries will have electronic copies of the book.
I usually prefer to search Google scholar (scholar.google.com) with specific keywords (e.g. Facebook, university students). After initial reading you will have more keywords to refine your searches. Also some of the papers you read will refer to other publications which could be also of interest.

My colleagues and I have just completed a research project regarding the technology use of university students - we had thought that social media use would have figured prominently and positively - but this was not always the case. I have pasted below the link to the project website.
