Robust control includes sliding mode and terminal sliding mode control. The major obstacle to achieving high loop gains is the need to maintain system closed-loop stability. Loop shaping which allows stable closed-loop operation can be a technical challenge.
Control system engineers are concerned with three main topics: observability, controllability and stability. Observability is the ability to observe all the parameters or state variables in the system. Controllability is the ability to move a system from any state to any desired state.
