Can someone answer some questions regarding OTDR Amplifier and Spike at OTDR?

1. What kind of amplifier does OTDR use? Inverting or Non-Inverting? And why?

2. How can we calculate the spike that is shown in OTDR, if we have the reflection coefficient (Rc)? I'm using 10 log (Rc), is that right?

For the Amplifier, I've got that it is a Current to Voltage Converter (CVC), to convert photocurrent to voltage that can be used at the ADC.

But I still confused because the amplifier is an inverting one, so the output will be minus as the input (photocurrent) is positive.

How can ADC process output of CVC that has the negative value?
