We have synthesized CoFe2O4 nanoparticles of different shapes functionalized with oleylamine. N-H stretching shifts to lower wavenumber in all the cases, which is due to the coordination bond formed at surface between nanoparticles and amine. But cubic particles show larger shift compared to spherical particles. What may be the reasons? Is it due to the coordination bond being stronger in the case of cubic particles?
this depends on many factors connected with the interaction forces .as you know Spherical particles naturally has smallest surface to volume ratio than cubic particles ( specific surface area per gram and the size of the particles) .from this you can conclude the the stretching vibration of amine in spherical lower than cubic .
