These are thin-section photomicrograp of Continental Carbonate rocks ( XPL and PPL). Can somebody help me in the identification of minerals marked by red arrows ?
I suspect this of being issue related to the preparartion of your thin sections. Give a more detailed description of the lithofacies where you have taken the samples from . It is certainly not the image of "normal calcareous lithofacies" . Could it be an impurity introduced during the mounting or embedding of the rock samples ?
I agree with prof. Dill. These grains looks impurities released during the polishing of your thin sections. In your image 3-PPL, fibres from tissues used during the cleaning of your thins section are still attached to the surface. when you clean it it will disappear.
I guess this is a carbonaceous sandstone facies. The first figure show carbonate (calcite) arrows at the top. Yellow and blow mineral is probably pyroxene. The dark grey materials are probably SiC polishing grains. 3rd figure show probably zircon. Sections need washing and cleaning with ethanol.
I aggree with mr D, Ahmed, that is pyroclastic Carbonaceus. can you show rock samples before cutting? because it will help a lot to ensure the type of rock
