Certainly NO. we cannot produce no solid waste from our day to day commercial, domestic and industrial undertakings. The best we can do is to minimize production through wise and disciplined consumption, or reusing, recycling approaches. Separation at source is a best way of minimizing land fillable wastes. Compostable wastes comprise a large proportion of our daily wastes, and if we can seriously use them in compost making, we can go down to about 30% (or thereabouts) of wastes being landfillable. For Africa, over 80% of wastes are disposed of, while in most of the developed world, they are coming to 30-50% land fillable wastes, by ensuring they maximize on compostable, reusable and recyclable portions.
