At Alexandria University, Egypt, students graduated from Science Education, Chemistry major could join Department of Chemistry at Faculty of Science and get B.Sc. degree within two years by passing the required complimentary courses. Then join the M.Sc and Ph.D. degree in Chemistry (anywhere!).

Thanks a lot. I am in this situation right now. My studies are related to natural products although I am a PhD Science Education major in Chemistry student. I am very much interested in developing simple laboratory methods which use plant compounds as alternatives to toxic chemical compounds and I advocate microscale experiments. However, to do that, I need to conduct research on natural compounds so I attend training sessions in instrumentation. Am I on the right path? Some colleagues told me to just focus on science education and focus on how students learn. My advocacy is more on innovating laboratory activities, hopefully, to come up with a compilation of "green chemistry"-related activities especially in a tropical country like ours. Nature provides us a good avenue to observe chemical reactions and I want to capture that by modifying common analytical techniques. After I finish PhD Science Education, I would like to finish MS Biochemistry and hopefully, PhD degree too.
