Malaria caused by Malaria parasites (Plasmodium species) is transmitted by Mosquitoes. Malaria especially in the sub-Saharan African region remains a major public health due to associate high mortality and morbidity particularly in the under-five.
Mosquitoes repellents are a major tool for the control of spread of the disease.
What is your take on the above question?
I let epeire spiders draw their nets in my garden, they get really big on mosquitoes. Where the winds enter, I planted geranium officinalis. Mosquitoes so much dislike the plant I can sleep outside in my hammock with only a leave behind my ear. But the best is to learn how not to hitch. More simple when you know mosquito venom (the one he pre-inject so we don´t feel it when he sucks) only last 60s. So, counting up to 60, you can avoid some of the major problems related to hitching. And the worst: hitching is like turning on a neon light saying Mosquito Restaurant Open.

Dear Prof. Alegbeleye, in Venezuela since there is a hyperinflation, and we don't have money to buy repellers, I personally have started to use several herbs.
One of them is called locally "ruda", another one are eucalipto leaves. Both have a strong smell that repels mosquitoes.
We have now a zika epidemic again, I guess, and our legs and arms are bitten all time by Dengue, Zika and Malaria mosquitoes (white legs) in most cities and fields. SARS-CoV-20 quarantine makes it worse.
But there aren't statistics provided by health authorities, hereby is hard to prove it, otherwise, my legs and arms are bitten, and I know what I have.
Sometimes these herbs work as repellents, it depends on the local weather. If it becomes warmer is hard to stop the mosquitoes, if it is colder, the herbs help. That is what I observe now.
A number of plants with repellents growing in Africa such as Neem, citronella, lavender. Just need to walk the talk.
For me, I sleep under treated mosquito net. My skins tends react to many things so I just simply don't use any repellant but a net. That makes me free from malaria.

Dear Alegbeleye......I am from India. Undoubtedly lemon grass (Citronella) oil and Neem Oil are the best natural repellents available in India. 1 % neem oil (to be prepared in/diluted with mustartd oil) works excellent and I found it effective for 8-10 hours against Anopheles baimaii and Anopheles minimus mosquitoes (which are major malaria vectors in north-eastern part of India) in my field study
