We are examining the possibility of using Power Spectral Density to characterize the transverse profile that is created with a laser image is projected onto a pavement surface. The resulting image is aggregate height versus distance - thus the resulting 'wave form' has very similar features to the wave forms related to signal processing however, there is no time involved - the x axis is distance, not time.
We think that the aggregate wave form could be analyzed and possibly characterized by PSD to generate information about texture quality and possibly also related to various paving applications.
Can someone advise if PSD can be used to analyze a wave form that is not related to a 'signal' or time?
Thanks very much,
Mike
