When I applied the lateral loading on single pile, the formation of gap occur at the back side of the pile and the soil and the soil fall down into this gap in the experiment. I just want to know that the Plaxis can detect the gap and the mechanism of falling the soil into this gap .
Yes, i feel PLAXIS3D can able to simulate the response of pile - soil separation under lateral loading. Since, this software is having interface element easy to simulate the problem and get the response of gap formation under lateral loading condition.

I just wonder the soil movement into this gap because I cannot trace the soil falling down into this gap after number of cycles in Plaxis.
The movement of the pile (or pile position) is substituted by the soil. So the soil movement is calculated as the difference between the initial position of the pile and its position after a number of cycles.
When the pile subjected to lateral load, the front portion soil always in contact and pile compress the soil. But, the other side, soil and pile will be separated and soil movement definitely will be there..you identify the soil element and check the response..
