I worked with DMF several times in the far past as a solvent for organic polymers.The technical-grade DMF "the one used in most laboratories" contains little impurities that are tolerated in teaching labs.

In a research lab."as yours", it will be better to use anhydrous DMF for dissolving PbBr2. You know that lead(II) bromide has low solubility in water & that is why it has a reported Ksp in chemistry references.
