Do anyone know about Grindstone synthesis for the synthesis of organic molecules? Some of the researchers are not confident about the process and few are working only on grindstone synthesis as one of the greener & solvent-free synthesis.
Kindly provide me your valuable views and references for conversion of Aromatic carboxylic acids to acid hydrazides.
Writing from the perspective of an industrial chemist, I am underwhelmed by this avenue of research. The technique has many drawbacks that render it impractical for manufacture at scale, contrary to what academic authors often claim about this approach in their papers. If it remains in the domain of academia, which I regard as highly likely, then the claims for green credentials made in an effort to win the grant money are questionable. The volume of solvent usage saved at academic lab scale is a drop in the ocean compared to the volume of solvent used routinely at industrial scale. Additionally, claims that the technique is solvent-free are not strictly true in that clean-down equipment at the end of a campaign of the process in most cases will require use of solvent (and it must not be overlooked that clean-down is usually part of a complete chemical process!). Sorry not to be more positive, but I have seen many academic studies published in many chemical journal on the subject of effecting solvent-free chemical reactions by grinding reagents together and thought that the public money spent on such research could have been put to better use elsewhere.
