We follow the rhythm of life, and the rhythm is part of our Daily. The melody is born of our sorrows, our sufferings and our joys. So, we can not live without music. Music is our memory, it is our story.
Yes, especially for young children who have not yet been exposed to unrestricted time looking at television or computer screens. However, I believe for older children and adults, multimedia education tools such as video, websites, or apps are more effective.
Music understanding and production requires trascendental skills that cannot be obtained from other activities. A large attention span is required in the composition of musical pieces, the comprehension of sound intervals develops abstract comprehension and mathematical skills and the play of a musical instrument requires advanced motor skills. Music is relevant in our age because we will change from a industrial world to an automatized world with AI, thus art will be more relevant as an economic activity and a way of human soul development.
Surely! Music should be more involved in education! It develops imagination, intelligence, empathy and integral coordination. For these reasons listening to music is important to make us familiar with it. Even simple exercises with chant or instrumental performance widen our horizons. Studying and analyzing of musical forms may increase our sense of order and organisation of the matters. Finally, any musical exercise teaches us patience and perseverance.
An interesting topic indeed. I believe that both Bernard Lukasz Sawicki and Roberto Avila-Vázquez have nailed the best response to this. I always pose the concept to my students, that if you were to subtract the music from a moving image sequence, is is still as powerful? Does it still convey the same meaning/intent? What if you were to change the music entirely in the scene of a famous movie sequence? The effect would be an entirely different experience. Music is very much an educational tool, and shall remain so through the advancement of this ever-expanding digital era. I wish you the best of luck with your study.
