Transition metal chalcogenides in general seem to be a very promising material family for semiconductor applications. Are they better than Graphene for these applications?
If one thinks of purely semiconductor applications, then yes MoS2 can be a good if not better alternative for Graphene.. MoSe2 is better 2D semiconducting material than MoS2.
Graphene is a unique example of an extremely thin electrical and thermal conductor with high carrier mobility. Because graphene has zero bandgap, transistors made from graphene cannot be switched off. Therefore graphene based devices are mostly used in RF circuits.

Hybrid structures of graphene/MoS2 are being studied to make some bandgap.
MoS2 is developed using the same technique that is used for graphene. Atomically thin layer of TMDCs is peeled from its parent bulk crystal. This method is not scalable and does not allow systematic control of flake thickness and size.
Therefore, considering the fabrication of devices, MoS2 is difficult to realize.
