New research from a German/Swiss collaboration in psychology concludes that conspiracy theorists think in similar ways to creationist. Both tend to think "everything happens for a reason," and things are as they "are meant to be." As a consequence, both are contributing to the current "post-truth era" associated with post-modernity.
