There are so many causes for disc prolapse. Mainly genetic and mechanical factors. In mechanical factors both intrinsic (within the spine) and extrinsic (out side the spine) factors play a role in the causation LDDD. Role of each factor causing disc degeneration is difficult to assess. I think you can do further research on the question you have asked, whether repeated rise of intraabdominal pressure has any effect on LDDD?.
Thanks for your intensive discussion. I appriciate it very much. Indeed, more studies are needed to reveal the influence of intraabdominal pressure on LDDD. In my opinion, it might be a contributor in some degree.
The rise of intraabdominal or intrathoracic pressure (i.e. coughing test) provokes back pain through the rise of the pressure in the vertebral canal in cases of disc protrusion or prolapse. If it may cause disc herniation is difficult to answer, but it may be an interesting issue to be studied.
