Yes, very much true, I have seen first hand how the freedom for the journalists has been curbed and they are made to suffer in numerous ways, someone who tries to bring out the stories they are being charged with harsher laws and setting up examples for other people if they do write anti-government statements they will be dealt the same way. But journalists need to e fearless bring out the stories and nothing should stop them from speaking the truth. also what they can do is boycott press conferences and interviews and give them a tough fight and not become complicit in the crimes by the government. or we can say for the sake of running their news channels/ newspapers with government advertisement, where they generate money should not be the reason for them to bend the knee for the government. Here it becomes the collective responsibility of the common people to support ree and unbiased journalism by providing these news portals with funds, it could be in the form of Subscriptions or monthly donations,
Depending on the Legal environment. If the society which the journalist finds himself is such that have absolute respects for the protection of human rights, this may enhance the safe and ease reporting of human rights violations. If on the other hand, the society is such where human rights are generally and usually violated, the journalist may have no other option than to keep quiet. We have had situations where journalists were prosecuted for reporting some events which actually took place. This in itself is a flagrant violation of basic human rights and values.
