Hi all,

I am analysing multiple mass spec files in AMDIS (NIST's automatic deconvolution software) and one of the compounds I am tracking is isoprene.

This compound is often appearing as 1,3-pentadiene, albeit with isoprene being offered as an alternative and equally good match. Sometimes 1,3-pentadiene AND isoprene are found as separate compounds (although always appearing at the exact same time, and clearly in the same peak).

Are these two compounds simply eluting together? Can they be discerned from one another? (their fragmentation pattern looks identical to me).

To give some context, I am analysing samples collected from the headspace of trees, and I cannot even find confirmation anywhere that 1,3-Pentadiene is emitted by plants, so that would be helpful information too!

I would love, love, love some help with this!
