I want to know if indigenous yeast isolated from river polluted with wastewater from leather industry are potential for biodegradation. I also want to compare it with bacterial biodegradation for the same problems, and what is it advantages and disadvantages?

Most of the naturally found microorganisms (indigenous), bacteria, fungi, yeast, etc. that are isolated from the contaminated environments have the potential to biodegrade specific types of contaminants depending on the source of contamination. These microorganisms utilize those contaminants as their sole carbon and energy sources. So, if you’re going to isolate yeast from a polluted water source, definitely those isolate/s would have the potential to biodegrade lipids. So, try to isolate both bacteria and yeast. Sometimes the isolation process may take a long time and you will encounter many problems. Then, try to optimize the isolation procedure by referring to the previous literature (Ex: by using different growth media, by reducing the strength of growth media, etc.).
Another thing is that we cannot compare or predict the advantages or disadvantages of both without conducting the experiments or analyzing the results. Therefore, conduct degradation assay for both and then compare the efficiency with biodegradation rate, time, etc. After that, you can compare those.
So before starting your experiments do a literature survey and make a good experimental plan. There can be failures. But, you will able to avoid those by better planning.

Either you will use commercial strains or you are going to isolate from the polluted water, the applied yeast must have the ability to produce biocatalysts such as lipase, catalase, oxidoreductase along with the production of biosurfactant.
Yeast lipases have received a raw deal compared to bacterial lipase. Among many lipase-producing yeasts, Candida rugosa is the most frequently used yeast as the source of lipase commercially.
Oil persists in wastewater mainly in two forms, free oil and emulsified oil. Emulsion may be either the coarse emulsion or the microemulsion. Once the oil is in microemulsion state, the stability of the oil- water system increases and becomes difficult to separate oil from water.
Therefore, you must study the effect of bioremediation technology on the removal of oil from oil-water mixture in the form of free, coarse and microemulsion.
