I am currently struggling with CST's Optimizer function. I designed an electron gun and now want to obtain the best voltage settings for anode, focus and deflecting stages in terms of achievable electron current through a defined face. It seems that the Optimizer is rather capable of zeroeing in on exact solutions (e.g. a set point current), though. However, I'd like to have the Optimizer vary some parameters unitl the maximum output current is delivered. Is there an easy way to do this? Currently, I use nested parameter sweeps which take forever...

I dont know exactly the application you are working with, but I suggest you using the template post processing (shortcut Shift + P) and (1) define the current as 1D result (2) take the vector from (1) and get its maximum absolute value. This isolated number will be set as your cost for the optimization, get it maximimized.
If the simulation takes forever, maybe thats another problem, you should try to make it smaller, simpler.

Best way to define and simulate the gun to get optimized voltage and maximum current is template post processing as suggested by Dr. Marcelo. You can use FFT plot of voltage and set the value of current by assigning the number of electron just like MAGIC software does.
