I just ordered a mouse monoclonal IgG1 primary antibody, and the only secondary I have is a goat anti-mouse IgG. Is this not specific enough? Do I need to have a secondary specific for IgG1? Thanks!
I don't think you should have problem using an anti IgG against an IgG1. the latter is the most represented and I also think that the anti IgG have a wide range, depending on the manufacturer. To be sure i advice you to: write to an expert of the manufacturer that provided you the secondary; try with certified ositive and negative samples (is that an ELISA?).
Hi Roberto, thank you for the advice. I'll be doing immunofluorescence with the antibodies, not ELISA. I'll contact the manufacturer just to be sure. Thanks again!
Most protocols use this kind of secondary reagent. Therefore it should be perfect for your application. More important is the question, whether you have any other antibodies in your system, either as a reagent or as a contamination from the sample. Then selectivity might become an issue.
