I usually use a KOH-modified silica column to isolate carboxylic acids from organic extracts. Can I use dichloromethane to extract the neutral (or non-acidic) constituents and methanol to extract the respective acids, INSTEAD OF ETHYL Ether / FORMIC ACID 2%? The next step is methylation. Can I methylate right away, or do I have to acidify the medium, and do liquid-liquid extraction?

Note! In the literature it is common to use 2% ether / formic acid to extract the acidic constituents
