For a 3^3 experimental design with factors pH, treatment time, and pressure, I have decided to use CCD to optimize the treatment. From the literature, the treatment conditions with various chemicals are available. However, there is no information about the combined effects. I am wondering;

1) Is it risky to define the optimum range from literature?

2) CCD includes 3 repetitions of center point runs. Since center points are considered to be the optimum, this method considers replication of center points, and I do not need to repeat the whole set of experiments three times?

3) Since optimization with this method has not been studied yet, there is no information on the curvature's existence. Is it a better idea to use a 2^k design augmented with center points?
