groups are ordered in an interval, A,B,C,D. how can I see if the difference between them is significant with one time running the process in SPSS? ANOVA?
You can use ANOVA which would allow you to conduct the overall test of the hypothesis that A=B=C=D and follow-ups for the pairwise tests. You can also carry out a test of the linear contrast that e.g., A > B > C > D. This isn't strictly an ordinal test but for many purposes thats a sensible test of an a priori hypothesis that the means are ordered.
If you use the UNIANOVA command (Analyze > GLM > Univariate in the GUI), another option would be Helmert contrasts. You would get 3 contrasts, as follows:
- A v [B,C,D]
- B v [C,D]
- C v D
