These centrifugal ultrafiltration devices can be obtained with various molecular weight cutoffs, all of which are on a molecular scale (10,000 to 100,000 Da). Virus will not pass through.
(Most) phages will not pass through these filters. If you apply a T7 or T4 lysate, for example, almost all phage particles will be concentrated above the MWCO column. If your goal is to concentrate viral particles, this should work, but since it's not impossible for a handful of phages to pass through, your filtrates may or may not be completely phage-free.
We usually use 50K or 100k MWCO to trap the coliphages, followed by CsCl gradient for TEM image because the filter will also capture any large debris from the host lysis and cause noisy background, thanks.
