For one of my experiment I need to run a program continuously for a few days. I actually do this in a local cluster. There the head node connects with the slaves with ssh and distribute the work. I've heard that it is possible to connect with the virtual pc of aws with ssh too. So do they allow this cpu intensive workload in their machines with a free tier? Any body have utilized their computing power for research?
It depends on how much CPU you will use. The link below has the AWS free tier limits. Note that along with CPU limits, there are network traffic limits, so consider your inter-PC traffic along with the traffic involved with uploading your data.
I have run some CPU intensive loads, but only as a way of testing out some features of AWS.
