I have downloaded the required .tiff files, and I have tried to convert them to TIN so they I can convert them to DEM, but have not found out how. I have also been told that there is no need to convert. Is that true? Can I use a .tiff file in HEC-RAS or does it have to be DEM/GRID?

For HEC-RAS you need TIN file. For this, you can covert TIFF file to TIN using any gis software such as ArcGIS and 3D analyst.

The patir .tiff file you must generate a TIN (containing the terrain elevation information). So you can extract the necessary information to the HEC-RAS through, for example, the HEC-geoRAS extension within ArcGIS.
no you need a TIN data which also contains information about altitude . so you can extract the x-section from that layer
If you are using HEC-GeoRAS for your river characterization, i would advice you to convert it into GRID.
GRID is the best option. Use HEC-GeoRAS and ArcGIS for creating spatial input data for HEC-RAS.
Thank you for your replies! I have in the end convetrted it to GRID and is okay. Is there any way I can add features to a GRID raster dataset or does it have to be converted to TIN (and use Add feature to TIN)?
