I have bought graphene oxide solution (disperse in water) from Sigma Aldrich but when i try to mix it with polymer, it doesn't mix well. Compared to self synthesis graphene oxide solution, it mix well to form composite. In my case, the problem rises from the commercialize graphene oxide or the method used to mix them? or is it related to the impurities or degree of oxidation or percent of functionalize of functional group related produce during the production of graphene oxide?
Note: when mixing with polymer, GO will be agglomerate either at the bottom or at the surface of the polymer solution..

What polymer are you using as a matrix? Are you using a compatibilizer?
It depend on degree of functionalization. also we miss info about used polymer solution.
Mr. Harfiz Salehudin - Since GO (1mg/ml) that I've purchase was in solution form, so I've try added 0.5 ml and 1 ml in Chitosan solution (100 ml).
Dr. Victor H Ponce - Chitosan, I'm not using any compatibilizer but I had used glutaraldehyde as binding agent.
Dr. Zdenko Spitalsky - Polymer solution that used was chitosan solution.

Try sonicating your GO before mixing it with the polymer solution. It is possible it won't be perfectly dispersed in water after some time. Also 0.5mg of GO in 1 mL of polymer solution is a very high concentration in my opinion. What is the concentration of your chitosan solution? You might need sonication and intense stirring after mixing the two solutions too.

Dear Zoe Terzopoulou, I've tried sonicate the GO before mixing with chitosan. By the way, the GO was in solution form not in powder form. The GO i've bought was dispersed in 100 ml water with concentration 1 mg/ml..i've sonicate again after the two materials was mixed.. :-)
freeze-dry the GO solution, collect the solid sample, dissolve it in a suitable solvent (formic acid and acetic acid, for instance) together with chitosan an then put the slurry constituted by Chitosan and GO in acetic acid in a non-solvent (for polymer and GO), which is totally miscible with formic/acetic acid... e.g. water. The nanocomposite will precipitate at the bottom. dry it and use it!
