i read many papers about detection of leptin hormones in women suffering osteoporosis at different ages, but they are in fasting overnight. if possible measure it at normal not fasting state , is there any defect in detection?
The answer is leptin hormones in women suffering osteoporosis at different ages, but they are in fasting overnight.
Leptin (from Greek λεπτός leptos, "thin"), "the hormone of energy expenditure",[a] is a hormone predominantly made by adipose cells that helps to regulate energy balance by inhibiting hunger. Leptin is opposed by the actions of the hormone ghrelin, the "hunger hormone". Both hormones act on receptors in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus.[6] In obesity, a decreased sensitivity to leptin occurs (similar to insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes), resulting in an inability to detect satiety despite high energy stores and high levels of leptin.[7]
Although regulation of fat stores is deemed to be the primary function of leptin, it also plays a role in other physiological processes, as evidenced by its many sites of synthesis other than fat cells, and the many cell types beside hypothalamic cells that have leptin receptors. Many of these additional functions are yet to be defined.
It is a neuro hormone of hypothalamus. It is stimulated in type 2 diabetes Mallitus so its better to calculate the secretion in fasting state.
Dear, Ali Nassar there is ELISA kit specific for this hormone by immunoassay , no direct relation between leptin and BMI, you measur the BMI and correlate with level of leptin statistically.
