I am carrying out a heat treatment simulation to study phase transformation in a cylinder using ABAQUS. I have encode the phase transformation kinetics in UMAT subroutine and assigned the volume fraction of each phase as state variables. I can see the see the contour of the state variables giving me information about the distribution of the phase fractions. The thing is I want to change the name of the legend. For example, STATEV(1) represents the volume fraction of Austenite. I have attached the result of a fully austenitized condition by subjecting the entire specimen above the AC3 temperature. My subroutine predicts accordingly as the result plots volume fraction of Austenite i.e., STATEV(1) as 1 everywhere. I would like to see Austenite in the legend of the contour plot and not STATEV(1). Is this possible? If so, please let me know.

Good news is yes you can. You can do this by creating a field output from fields. To access go to Tools->Create Field Output->From Fields. Simply name the field what you want it to be, and select the proper field output. It will appear in a created step called Session Step. See 42.7.4 of the Abaqus/CAE User's guide.
