I would suggest to explore in the area of cybersecurity, data mining and processing algorithms for data in electric distribution systems. You can look for problems pertaining to load forecasting. Game theory applications in power grid can also be an option.

As the research is going to be for undergraduate, I would recommend exploring the effects of distributed generation DG on a given local network and determine the maximum amount of energy the network can take without jeopardise the system.
