Hi!

I hope that someone is able to help me with this.

I am planning a social psychology experiment in which I would like to use a masculinity threat prompt. I would like it to be similar to experiment 1 in this study by DiMuccio & Knowles (2022): Something to Prove? Manhood Threats Increase Political Aggression Among Liberal Men | Request PDF (researchgate.net)

They had their participants respond to Bems sex role inventory and then they provided semi-false feedback, that is, they used the total score of the participants and subtracted 30 points (100 points is max and indicates a high masculinity score) to indicate that male participants were less masculine than the average male (so that their masculine identity was threatened). This was done by showing each participant a bar or scale, upon completion of the inventory, where their own score is below the average male score range.

Say for example one participant's true score is 80. We would like to provide that participant feedback that states that his score is 50. The next participant has a score of 90, that is, 60. I am wondering if this is possible to set up in Qualtrics, and how? What is the tool called? Please let me know if I am not being clear enough.

Thanks in advance!

Best,

Maya
