Mycelium is cultured on PDB medium. Mycelium biomass is extracted by simple filtration with Whatman filter paper but the live biomass contains PDB on its surface. To get clean biomass can I give the biomass an ultrasonic bath? If so, then for how long at what power and temperature?

To my knowledge, ultrasonic cleaning is very effective for cleaning hard materials; it is less effective for soft and porous materials. Therefore, ultrasound is not suitable for cleaning the vegetative part of the fungus (Mycelium). Ultrasonic treatment of biomass often leads to weakening or even breaking of intermolecular bonds of the components, which results in degradation of the material.

Nihal Shahriyar, just wash the filter with biomass with buffer or water. All soluble compounds will be removed, no problems at all!
