The Davis equation is not related to the instrumental methods of assessing HLB. The equation includes the group numbers of hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. Therefore, the Davis equation can be used for all types of surfactants. The system satisfactorily explains the qualitative behavior of the surfactant, but does not allow for quantitative calculations.
