Plasmid-mediated AmpC cephalosporinases are derivatives

of the chromosomally encoded AmpC b-lactamases of bacteria

such as Enterobacter, C. feundii, M. morganii, Aeromonas

spp. and Hafnia alvei . These enzymes are not inhibited by

commercial b-lactamase inhibitors, such as clavulanic acid,

sulbactam and tazobactam, although different types of inhibitors,

such as boronic acid and cloxacillin, have shown good

inhibition.

May I know since cloxacillin can be used to inhibit AmpC, can we at least use it in infection for patients infected with it. Perhaps as substrate inhibitor with the addition of another drug that will then circumvent the AmpC and kill the organism?
