In other words, it can be called religious personality or spiritual personality? I would be happy to provide me answers, comments, references and published papers. Thanks ahead.
Modern personality theory tends to treat personality traits as behavioral tendencies. Thus any measure of habitual religious behaviors could be be considered a measure of a trait.
However, as I reread your questions, perhaps you are looking for non-religiously defined personality traits that predict religiosity? If that's the case, check out the following article. High Agreeableness and high Conscientiousness tend to characterize the highly religiosity:
Saroglou, V. (2002). Religion and the five factors of personality: A meta-analytic review. Personality and individual differences, 32(1), 15-25.
Thanks David for your great reply, there are two different things: one is religiosity or spirituality can be considered as one of the personality trait- I think your sayings of habitual religious behaviors as one of trait-; and second is that religiosity or spiruality can be a measure of personality so this latter is yet addressed inthe study of personality.
Of course, there are some measures to measure the religiosity and spirituality independently and try to find out the relationship with personality trait. Agreed, the study of Saroglu is one of them.
Again, religiosity and spirituality can be considered as a measure of personality since these are manifested on behavior and attitude?
Alexander Moreira-Almeida, Harold Koenig and Christina Puchalski discussing about this themes! It's almost an obligation read them articles to research about.
Dear Sir. it is neither of it and the real truth is " It is cultural based", Culture makes a human to adapt or to practice or to accept at specific time and so on.
Culture is the key that builds block by block all understanding which comprises of a constitutional set up of information which forms the platform on WHICH personality is DISPLAYED.
It is very interesting to learn the way culture sculpts a persons personality and the person himself or herself adapts and accepts few and rejects few and keeps in KIV some which may be of great valued building block which would set the completion of that person personality.
I can give a long explanation but for you Sir , please understand that EXCEPT - Culture- there is nothing which can ever be the platform which can print a personality and THEN comes in that person culture to be religious or spiritual as per the individual choice. Thanks
Thanks Dr Tajudeen for your insight point, I believe culture is playing an important role on shaping personality.
However, religiosity and spirituality independently should be considered as the impact on behavior, attitude, and feelings of individuals regardless of their culture because there is an pivotal concept that is "innate tendency" representing the basic motive of self. In other words, humans' creation is basically to recognize his/her Creator and worship Him, upon stated in the Holy Qur'an. Hope my explanation is clear and useful.
