Seeking advice from Salina KS, USA:
I am in desperate need of a UV trap to live-trap and monitor (NOT kill) night-flying moths. Here are the requirements:
-- Has to run off a battery for 12 hrs. Solar-powered preferred, but we can switch out batteries if necessary
-- Has to be weatherproof. As in, does not short out in the rain, in 100-degree F (40 C) weather, and is tolerant of wind and dust
-- Easy to assemble and maintain. I am not an electrician! I know there are plans out there to build your own, but I don't have the skills to successfully weatherproof the system.
I currently have a crappy homemade system in which the parts short out frequently, or when it's working it drains the battery and doesn't run through the night. I tried going with a company who supposedly custom-built such systems, but theirs was underpowered and did not prove to be weatherproof. I know that Gempler's used to make a really sturdy UV trap, but it's no longer being manufactured in the US.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Many thanks.
