Can anyone tell me about that i am treating the starch wastewater with micro-algae. i have analyzed different factors like nitrogen removal, Phosphorous removal, COD removal and ammonia nitrogen removal. But i am little bit confused about Ammonia nitrogen is going to increase in my case. What's the reason? And second question is that it could may possible that all factors have positive correlation with growth of microalgae?

According to me, algae can not use effectively carbohydrates for C source. Although some references reported that green algae Chlorella vulgaris can absorb glucose by diffusion and use it, the rate of usage it is very limited (maximum % 15 in terms of utilizable C source among the carbohydrates in the media) and it is monosaccharide. Moreover, starch is a polysaccaride and utilization of starch by algae is very difficult (In fact I could not find any reports about it, may be I should search more). I think you should use heterotrophic microorganisms especially anaerobic or facultative anaerobic bacteria. As a beginning, you can use an anaerobic sludge from locally available anaerobic digester or reactor. Don't forget addition of macro and micro elements also oligoelements to the starch wastewater if it is poor in terms of nutrients.
You can find appropriate hydraulic retention time for starch wastewater using appropriate organic loadings to anaerobic reactors.

Thanks for your kind knowledge. I don't use reactor to cultivate microalgae in starch wastewater and finally, i use to know lipids quantity in microalgae for biodiesel production.
