I have a question in mind about resolution merge, let suppose I have two images of SPOT one is 10 m and other is 2.5 m, I performed resolution merging and the 10 m image is spatially enhanced to 2.5 m, now when I see the metadata it will show that the image is 2.5 resolution but actually it is 10m image which has been enhanced.
Now the question is "as the metadata shows that it is 2.5 m but how I can know/check that 10m images has been enhanced to 2.5m using resolution merge, or how I can find the originality of the image? How can I find this information out?
the idea of the resolution merge is that you merge the best spatial resolution (here 2.5 instead of 10 m) with the best spectral resolution (here 4 bands instead of one band).
So in the metadata, you should see that the spatial resolution is 2.5 m, and that the spectral resolution is 4 bands (the input were 2.5 m and one band merged with 10 m with 4 bands).

Merging methods
The general procedure for merging panchromatic information into the multispectral bands is to transform the original multispectral image into a new coordinate system in which one of the axes represents intensity (Pellemans and others 1993). After replacing this intensity by the panchromatic band and after the inverse transformation, the merging process is completed. This general out-line, which is employed by all the methods except HPF and CN and subsequently discussed in detail for each individual method. Note that the TM band corresponding to thermal infra-red has been excluded from the analysis, as, despite the fact that it provides relevant data, its spatial resolution is very low (120x120 m).
10m and 2.5m resolutions are basically cell size. Hence u can check the cell size of the original image and the resolution merged output image. Add in ArcMap and when you right-click and go to properties, you will find cell size.
U can get a better understanding by comparing both images visually. Add both images in any software, and zoom in. At a certain zoom level your original image will start to pixelate, but the 2.5 m resolution image will look clear
