I am trying to study effect of temperature (20, 25 and 30 degree Celsius) on life history of Melonworm (Diphania hyalinata:Lepidoptera) in different cucurbit hosts. For that I need to rear them inside incubator that means I have to supply their food (leaves) every single day. For rearing a small number, I put them in petridish with leaf disc inside it and change the leaf disc everyday. I will then transfer all the larva to new leaf disc and new petridish. Despite of clean operation and use of fresh leaves, most of the larva died. There is some kind of disease development every time, may be bacterial or viral. This disease will wipe out all the larva and none survives. So can you suggest me any other new and better techniques to rear these insects?
