In an African surrounding an up to date cath lab is going to start its activities. There is a future program for Mitral Valvotomy in discussion. Because of severe finance restrictions there is the need to refurbish single use material e. g. balloons for Valvotomy and other catheterisation materials. Reports and advice about hands on practical experience are requested.
Inoue (Toray corporation Japan) and life tech are the most commonly used balloons for percutaneous mitral volvotomy. They are available in various sizes. Cost of Inoue is more than lifetech but it is very easy to handle. All these balloon can be cleaned and re used 5 to 8 times thus decreasing operational cost. After cleaning before reuse, ETO is necessary.

balloon cleaning and ETO can be done in hospital. A cath lab technitian can easily do it. You just need to purchase an ETO equipment. There are generally local vendors for it.
